Installation of Covered Conductors on Öland
A few weeks ago, Amokabel, in collaboration with E.ON Sweden and ONE Nordic AB, took another step forward in strengthening Sweden's power grid. A groundbreaking project on southern Öland was completed, involving the installation of covered conductors at 50/52 kV. This technology enhances safety and sustainability in energy supply, marking a significant milestone in the effort to future-proof the grid.
Why We Installed 50/52 kV Covered Conductors on Öland
Increased Safety
The covered conductors protect the power grid from direct contact with vegetation, significantly reducing the risk of electrical faults and fires. This measure is especially critical in areas where nature surrounds the power lines and poses potential risks.
Protection for Birdlife
Covered conductors also positively impact biodiversity by reducing the risk of birds colliding with or coming into contact with live wires. This makes the technology essential for protecting wildlife in sensitive ecosystems.
Weather Resistance
In Sweden, where harsh weather often impacts the power grid, this technology provides a more robust solution capable of withstanding storms and strong winds. This results in fewer outages and greater reliability for consumers, even during extreme weather conditions.
Efficient Implementation
The project utilized existing infrastructure, such as poles and roads, saving both time and resources. This makes the installation not only cost-effective but also more environmentally friendly.
A Step Toward a Sustainable Future
This project is part of Amokabel's and its partners' long-term vision to deliver safe, sustainable, and innovative solutions for Sweden's energy supply. By leveraging modern technologies like covered conductors, a robust grid is ensured while safeguarding nature.
With this successful project on southern Öland, Amokabel demonstrates what the power grid of the future can look like – smarter, safer, and more sustainable.
