The original BS 8436 cable is a premium aluminium-screened cable developed for safe and reliable low-voltage power and lighting installations. Designed for both indoor and outdoor applications, it combines robust construction with practical installation benefits and a high level of electrical safety. A key feature of the BS 8436 cable is its fail-safe design. If the cable is accidentally penetrated by a metallic object, the aluminium screen provides additional protection, making it particularly suitable for concealed installations in walls and partitions. The cable provides a reliable and cost-effective solution for installations at depths of less than 50 mm, including applications outside recognised safe zones and within metal or part-metal wall constructions. It is designed to support compliance with BS 7671:2018 Wiring Regulations, Regulations 522.6.201–204. The original BS 8436 cable – widely imitated, but never surpassed.
