Amokabel has signed a five-year framework agreement with Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks (SSEN) for the supply of Covered Conductors across its electricity distribution networks in northern Scotland and central southern England.

The agreement marks an important milestone for Amokabel's continued growth in the UK market and further strengthens the company's position as a trusted supplier of resilient overhead line solutions for modern electricity networks.

Proven performance in demanding environments

Before the agreement was awarded, Amokabel and SSEN carried out an extensive testing programme in some of Scotland's most challenging operating environments, including the Highlands and Islands.

The trials evaluated the performance of Covered Conductors under severe weather conditions, in coastal areas exposed to high levels of salt contamination, and in locations where network reliability is particularly important for local communities and businesses.

Throughout the programme, the conductors demonstrated strong performance and reliability, providing SSEN with valuable operational experience and confidence in the technology.

"We are very proud to become a preferred supplier to SSEN. The successful trials demonstrated the reliability and performance of our Covered Conductor technology in some of the most challenging operating conditions in the UK. This agreement is an important milestone for Amokabel and supports our continued growth in the UK market." -Phil Hancock, Sales Manager UK & Ireland

Supporting a more resilient electricity network

Electricity network operators across the UK face increasing challenges related to severe weather events, vegetation management, network resilience and environmental considerations.

Covered Conductors provide an effective solution by reducing the risk of outages caused by tree contact and falling branches, while also improving network reliability in areas exposed to storms and harsh environmental conditions.

The technology can help utilities:

  • Reduce outages and customer interruptions

  • Improve network resilience during storms and extreme weather

  • Minimise the impact of vegetation on network performance

  • Enhance protection for wildlife

  • Improve overall network reliability and operational efficiency

By combining the operational advantages of overhead lines with additional insulation and protection, Covered Conductors offer utilities a cost effective and proven solution for strengthening existing networks and supporting future investment plans.

Looking ahead

Through this partnership, Amokabel will support SSEN in its ongoing work to deliver a safer, more reliable and more resilient electricity network for customers across its licence areas.

The agreement represents another important step in Amokabel's commitment to helping network operators build robust electricity infrastructure capable of meeting the increasing demands of electrification, climate resilience and long term network performance.
